Please join us in welcoming the Hiawatha Quill Queens to GRASAC, after their membership nomination was unanimously supported! The Quill Queens are led by experienced quillworker, artist and quillwork instructor Sandra Moore. The group numbers between 6 and 10 individuals who are quillworkers at different stages of their technical and artistic learning. All are citizens of Hiawatha First Nation. The group attended a special event to visit closely with the quilled makaks/ancestors who are visiting at the Peterborough Museum & Archives for the To Honour and Respect exhibit. Ruth Phillips was also present at that event, and showed images of early quillwork from the region as well as speaking about the GKS. The Quill Queens unanimously expressed great interest in perusing the GKS to learn more about historic quillwork, and this kind of Indigenous grassroots scholarship is what we should be supporting with GRASAC.
