GRASAC member Krista Barclay has recently joined First Peoples Law as a Historian. The firm works exclusively with Indigenous Peoples to defend their inherent and constitutionally protected title, rights and Treaty rights. Krista will be connected with the firm’s Ottawa office but will be based in Durham Region, working on historical research to support Specific Claims primarily focused in what is now Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

For many years, Krista has been collaborating with Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre in Rainy River First Nation, alongside Art Hunter (Rainy River) and Pamela Klassen (University of Toronto). She co-organized the Treaties, Museums, Universities gathering at Rainy River in October 2022. She has supported community heritage work, digital archiving and creative storytelling.

We wish Krista all the best in her new career!
