From the University of Toronto
Beginning on October 11th, the University of Toronto will initiate a program to cover tuition expenses for students from nine First Nations. This endeavor seeks to improve accessibility and inclusivity for Indigenous students while fostering stronger relationships with these communities. The supported First Nations include Alderville First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, Nation Huronne-Wendat/Huron-Wendat First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (Tyendinaga Mohawk), and Six Nations of the Grand River. Additionally, Indigenous or Native American students from the continental United States will be billed at the domestic Ontario tuition rate, in line with the Jay Treaty of 1794, which recognizes the colonial nature of the U.S.-Canada border.
