Current PDG Research Projects

April 4, 2018 by chass_wp-admin

Members of the “Animating Knowledge” project study heritage items from the collection at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (2017).

Thanks to funding received from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada in 2016, for our “Growing GRASAC” Partnership Development Grant, over the past year and a half we have been able to develop eight exciting new pilot research projects.

Head on over to the Research in Action section of this site to read more about each of these projects!

  • Animating Knowledge: The Spirit of Community Stories (Nipissing First Nation, Nipissing University, the Native Canadian centre of Toronto and University of Toronto)
  • Wampum Showcase: Weaving Interpretive Stories and Re-awakening Wampum Objects and Archives in Museums (University of Pennsylvania and the Six Nations Deyohahá:ge: Indigenous Knowledge Centre)
  • Negotiating Schooling and Literacies in the Great Lakes and St Lawrence River Regions, 1600-1900 (Huron College, University of Western Ontario)
  • Shaataahaa: Indigenous Methodologies for Collection Based Research (Manitoba Museum, University of Regina, University of Pennsylvania, and the Institute of American Indian Arts at Santa Fe)
  • Nitaawichige: Skilled at Making Things (Michigan State University and Museum)
  • Jiingwan: Sounding Out Law (University of Toronto)
  • Translating Onöndowa’ga:’ Archaeology into Stories: the Townley-Read and White Springs Sites (Cornell University, Ganondagan State Historic Site, Seneca National Iroquois Museum)
  • Exploring Material Culture and Audio Visual Archives at Akwesasne’s Native North American Travelling College (Native North American Travelling College and Carleton University)
Members of the “Animating Knowledge” project, from Nipissing First Nation, examine a lovely example of Haudenosaunee raised beadwork at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (2017).
